I have been lucky to experience living in many parts of the United States. But it was during my early days in the Western Nebraska Plains I became fascinated with bees. At 7 years old I bought some used beehives and went out and caught my first swam. Once my Granddad from Iowa saw that my interest was more than a passing phase he gave me some equipment and his encouragement.
By high school I was living in Iowa and with a friend managing 169 hives and sold top notch comb honey. We ended up selling the business and using the funds to help pay for college.
For many years I worked in construction traveling the world. Then in 2010 the bug hit me. I missed the bees. And I knew that I could make a difference and help to save these industrious, necessary creatures that pollinate 1/3 of our food supply.
Lip balms that protect, heal and last a long time.
Skeletons of extinct Miocene mammals were found in the hills and are on display at the Agate Fossil Beds National Monument's visitor center. These mammals existed approximately 5.3 million to 23 million years ago. My favorite is the beardog. https://www.nps.gov
